More Information about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known in the US as "Lou Gehrig's Disease", is a disease of the nervous system that directly affects the body's motor neurons. The disorder causes muscles to weaken and atrophy because the nerve signals are no longer sent by the upper and lower body neurons. Thus, ALS is a progressive disease that affects the body's ability to control voluntary muscle movements.
For more information about this motor neuron disease, see the Wikipedia article about ALS. |
